Hawaii is the 50th state, joining the United States in 1959. It is known as the Aloha State. It is an amazing tropical vacation destination. Here a few reasons why you should visit Hawaii.
**All photos & videos in this blog are from my Hawaii travels!**
1. The state of Hawai'i is made up of eight islands - six public and two private. Each island is unique. Oahu, The Island of Hawai'i, Kaua'i and Maui are the most visited islands. The two smaller islands are Moloka'i and Lana'i, are not often visited.
2. The weather in Hawaii is perfect, with sunny summer weather year round. The Island of Hawai'i has 8 of the world's 13 climate zones!
3. Hawaii is a tropical paradise! Hawaii's stunning and diverse nature offerings include beaches, botanical gardens, rain forests, mountains, valleys, waterfalls and an active volcano. Some areas of Hawaii look as they did thousands of years ago. Wildlife that you may see while visiting Hawaii include whales, dolphins, monk seals, green sea turtles, manta rays and many species of native birds.
4. Hawaii has picture perfect sunrises and sunsets over the ocean daily. Hike or bike a trail to enjoy breath taking views of the oceans and mountains. Hawaii also has amazing star gazing opportunities.
5. Hawaii is romantic, and many couples become engaged, marry, honeymoon and celebrate anniversaries in Hawaii.
6. Hawaii is family friendly! There are things for everyone in Hawaii.
7. Hawaii has so much culture and history! Hawaii has been inhabited over 2000 years. It is a true melting pot with influences from at least ten cultures, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Somoan, Tongan and Tahitian.
Hawaiian culture is kept alive by it's people. The Hawaiian language is commonly spoken, and can be found in the beach names, city names and street names. Hawaiian festivals are held year round that showcase much of Hawaii's traditions, history and culture. Luaus feature hula demonstrations, Hawaiian music, and many traditional Hawaiian foods.
There are many museums on Hawaii to showcase it's history and traditions. Visit Pearl Harbor (a must see for anyone in Hawaii), Iolani Palace, historic towns like Lahaina (on Maui), take a tour to learn about Hawaiian culture or attend a Luau. Learn about Hawaii's art and music, or even learn to play the ukulele.
8. With so many cultures, Hawaii is a foodies dream destination! Authentic Hawaiian foods, with the added flair of other cultures, are delicious and should be tried by every visitor.
9. Hawaii has something for every shopper, from flea markets to farmer's markets, to shopping malls, designer stores and outlets!
10. If you like to volunteer, check out The Malama Hawaii Program. It provides opportunities to volunteer in Hawaii, helping to preserve it's incredible natural beauty and rich culture.
11. You will never run out of things to see and do in Hawaii. From relaxing on the beach to enjoying spa and wellness time, to surfing, diving, snorkeling, mountain tubing, parasailing, deep sea fishing, whale watching, and ziplining, to golfing, star gazing, sight seeing and tours, visiting cultural sites and visiting an active volcano, you will always have items on your 'To Do In Hawaii' list.
12. Hawaii is part of the United States! If you are a United States citizen, you don't need a passport to travel to Hawaii. If you reside in the United States, Hawaii has many of the comforts of home: while you are in Hawaii your cell phone probably works, the US dollar is the accepted currency, the food and water are under the same USDA guidelines as they are in other parts of the US, cars drive on the same side of the road as they do in other parts of the US, and English and Hawaiian are the official languages.
13. My favorite reason - Hawaii's residents include people who were born and raised on the islands, and transplants from around the world. You will find the 'aloha spirit' every where, especially in the lovely people who reside in Hawaii and respect nature, Hawaii's culture and each other.
